The Six Nations Chiefs may finally have put the finishing touches on their 2015 roster, acquiring transition players Andrew Watt and Brodie Merrill from the KW Kodiaks and Oakville Rock, respectively.
The Chiefs completed the deal for Watt late Tuesday afternoon, allowing him to dress for their 11-9 win over the Peterborough Lakers. In return, they sent KW second and third round picks in the 2018 MSL draft and other considerations.
While Watt is a solid addition to the back end, though, the coup de grace is the acquisition of Merrill, still a star player as evidenced by his nomination as one of three finalists for this year's National Lacrosse League transition player of the year award. Six Nations sent tough guy Tory Gardner and a player to be named in 2016 to the Kodiaks in the three-team deal that netted them Merrill.
To Oakville, Six Nations gives a pair of players to be named in 2016 plus other considerations. The Rock also receive a first-round draft pick from KW that the Kodiaks had gotten from Six Nations in an earlier trade.
Merrill will debut with the Chiefs Wednesday night in Whitby when they face the Brooklin Redmen.
