Kodiaks down Lakers in OT, Excelsiors get first win over Rock

Lacrosse fans in Kingston got even more than they bargained for at the Inaugural First Capital Cup Saturday. The KW Kodiaks and Peterborough Lakers went to overtime when Scott Evans scored his second goal of the game for the Lakers to tie it 8-8 late in the third period. The Kodiaks scored the only 3 goals of the overtime to win the game, and the Cup, 11-8.

Jason Noble, Brandon Ivey, Aaron Wilson and Jamie Rooney each scored twice for the Kodiaks. Evans and Mark Steenhuis had a pair each for Peterborough, who drop to 3-3 on the season with three wins at home and three losses on the road. Kitchener is now 2-3.

Brampton earned their first win of the season, narrowly avoiding overtime as Mike Hominuk scored with two seconds remaining and Anthony Cosmo pulled for an extra attacker. The Rock had just tied the game nine seconds earlier when Brendan Muise buried his second of the day on a hard outside shot on the powerplay.

Brampton and Oakville both moved to 1-3 with the result.
